Diane Ladd, Celebrated For Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, Passes Away at Age 89.

The award-nominated actress the celebrated Diane Ladd passed away 89 years old.

The actor, with filmography featured National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, died at her home in Ojai, California. This announcement was shared via an announcement shared by her offspring, Academy Award-winning star her daughter Laura Dern.

Laura Dern, who starred with her mom in various films including Rambling Rose, described her as “my amazing hero as well as my special gift of a mother”, stating that she was by her side as she died.

“She was the greatest daughter, mother, grandmother, performer, creative and compassionate soul that seemed almost dreamlike,” she expressed. “We were blessed to have her. She is now with the angels.”

Early Career and Breakthrough

Her initial acting years featured supporting roles in TV shows such as Gunsmoke and the 1970s saw her starring next to Jack Nicholson in the film Chinatown.

In the same year, 1974, she shared the screen alongside Ellen Burstyn in Scorsese’s celebrated comedy drama Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, a classic. Her role earned Ladd her first Oscar nomination as best supporting actress.

Later Decades

Throughout the 1980s, she was seen in the dramatic film Black Widow plus comedy sequel Christmas Vacation and also took part in the show Alice, a comedy program based on Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore.

In the following decade, she earned another supporting actress nomination for her performance in the David Lynch film Wild at Heart, a cult classic where she acted as the mother of her real-life daughter the character played by Dern. A year later she received a further nomination for her performance in Rambling Rose which also starred Laura Dern.

The 1990s featured performances in humorous films Cemetery Club, a film bringing her back with Burstyn, Primary Colors, a political story, a political comedy, with John Travolta and Payne’s the movie Citizen Ruth where she played Laura Dern’s mom again. Those years also earned her nominations for Emmy Awards for roles in Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman, the show Grace Under Fire and Touched by an Angel, a drama.

Collaborations with Daughter

She continued to star alongside her daughter in dramatic comedies Daddy and Them, a movie, the David Lynch project the movie Inland Empire and the series by Mike White satirical show Enlightened, a TV series. She additionally starred with actress Sandra Bullock in 28 Days, a movie, Sir Anthony Hopkins in that movie and Jennifer Lawrence in Joy.
