Patriots Equal Longest Winning Streak From Tom Brady Era with Win Over New York Jets
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson has recorded five TDs this season
New England matched their top unbeaten stretch from the Brady period as they defeated division rivals the Jets by 13 points in the NFL
First-year standout TreVeyon Henderson shone brightly with three touchdowns as the Patriots secured an eight-game winning streak for the initial occasion since legendary quarterback Brady's last year with the team in 2019
Signal-caller Drake Maye accumulated 281 passing yards and a touchdown, completing 25 passes from 34 throws
The triumph extends the New England's lead at the top of the division as they improved to nine victories against two losses, with the Jets at the foot after dropping to a 2-8 mark
The Jets had taken the lead at Gillette Stadium with QB Justin Fields rushing for a five-yard touchdown to conclude the New York's first possession
But the Patriots answered in the second period as Henderson ran in two short rushing scores before the ball carrier caught a pass from Drake Maye at the back of the endzone halfway into the third period to push the score to 21 to 7
"That was a key occasion for him delivering, and it's been fantastic for him to keep getting these reps," Maye commented on Henderson. "He wants to be excellent."
Fields threw to John Metchie late in the third period to narrow the deficit for the Jets but Andy Borregales converted a two kicks in the final period as the home side closed out the win
