Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Loss
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's expected for doubts to be raised about his position following a further convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in twelve matches, representing the team's poorest run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a tough night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received significant support from the top,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to change things and get a victory of course but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it's typical that people question you.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Talks with Club Management
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the team officials, Slot said:
“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me constantly of the day to say they back me.”
He added, “During our regular conversations we have I sense the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them after this match so far so we'll see.”
Recurring Issues and Player Response
The manager lamented recurring shortcomings from his squad in their European loss, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” Jones stated.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the words.”
He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a spell like this with outcomes this poor.”
Jones finished, “But we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And as long as that badge is gone, we’re always going to compete.”
“We’re going to try to help the side return to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”
“But right now, things are bad and it must improve.”
