The former Liverpool manager states coming back to lead Liverpool is conceivable.
The German coach, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, indicated that returning someday is something that could happen. Klopp, post a game-changing nine-year spell that included a European Cup triumph and the Reds’ first league title in 30 years, now holds positions as head of global soccer with the Red Bull group and in an advisory capacity for the DFL.
Fan Sentiment and His Frank Comments
They secured the league title under Arne Slot, though countless followers holding him in high esteem would welcome the notion that he may eventually return. In a wide-ranging interview, he explained to the podcast host: “I declared I will never coach any other side on English soil. Therefore should it be the Reds...absolutely. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“I’m 58, so I could make the decision later on, it's uncertain. Is a decision required immediately? Then I will not coach again. Luckily, it's not necessary. I'll wait and observe how things unfold.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Questioned regarding the specific conditions would have to unfold to tempt his return to management, he revealed he isn't eager for a comeback. “It's unclear to me, I enjoy my current role,” he commented. “I don’t miss coaching; I don’t miss standing during downpours through long matches; I'm glad to skip media briefings repeatedly each week or having 10-12 interviews a week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room as a dressing room, however, dining out alongside the squad enjoying conversation, that’s nice. With many victories so there was often positive atmosphere in the building. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh ringing in my ears to illustrate.”
Commending Arne Slot
Klopp was full of praise of the current boss, acknowledging his role for the adjustments that took the title last term. Liverpool have lost four consecutive matches in all competitions post heavy investment, but he rubbished the suggestion that it might signal a slump.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward like Florian Wirtz, critics will regret if spoken against. He’s an incredible talent. Ekitike, incredible player. It’s a really good thoughtfully assembled roster. Fans shouldn't fret over the club, things will improve.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
The manager expressed deep feeling about the death of the Portuguese star, a player he signed while in charge, and its impact for the team. The Portugal international died tragically in a road accident alongside his brother this past summer.
“How do you replace somebody like Diogo? It’s not about his footballing ability, it’s the guy he was. I can’t imagine the squad without him in it. I still cannot speak properly about it. It was an incredible shock for his teammates as well. Not a single person would cite it to justify results though it's a fact. You walk in a dressing room which he filled completely. Coping with it emotionally is challenging. Impossible.”
