The Latest Relaxed Playlist Sparks Heated Discussions Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but includes several notable changes:
- Every squad has only 8 real players, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions performed by real players award full XP, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
- Just a pair of locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Features like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.
So essentially, the playlist lives up to its title: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it provides more options for gamers looking for alternative methods to have fun with the game. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 fans are mad.
Player Responses: From Fury to Support
"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says another. At the same time, in community forums, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," and someone else details all the issues they believe to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."
However, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this title 24/7. Let them strike a balance," states a different comment. A response via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Concerns and Player Feedback
All that said, there are constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it will make queue times more extended for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists currently available. Similarly, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was promised to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to remove XP farming from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the community compromising in the middle, as per forum feedback. Another describes this mode as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
Should the development team has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Assignments being too difficult got fixed rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data shows this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
